Mt Everest Conquered
On Saturday 21st March, 2020 with one of my friends Martin Pengilly, and help from our amazing team of Sherpas, we Everested - We rode higher than Mt Everest in just one day, riding 380 km in 17 hours!
Up Brooklyn Hill to Pie In The Sky 49 times to a height of nearly 9,000m
Now you can help me get to the top of my Everest fundraising goal and in doing so, accelerate Brain Cancer Research.
Please make a difference and donate to accelerate brain cancer research, on the road to a cure.
All donations over $2 are tax deductible and a receipt will be emailed to you.
Fundraising Reaches Everest !
Amazing, just amazing to see the fundraising page tick over the same dollar amount as the height of Everest today - well done everyone, if you have been busy disinfecting your part of the world, it's not to late to see if we can get over the magic $10k - you know if I can climb 8848m for Brain Cancer Research, then you know we can do this!
Everesters Super Excited to Start the Climb / Target Reset
Unbelievable generosity from everyone, thankyou!
Admin just noticed that the target was obviously set to low, we have reset this so please keep the support coming in.
With our friends at PREPD we will try to keep you updated tomorrow on here and on Instagram rossbowles_ .
Onwards and upwards
Welcome Phil
Big hello and welcome to Phil - great to have you aboard Phil

WARNING: Climbing to the top of Mount Everest is an extremely dangerous endeavour, even for experienced mountaineers led by guides and using supplemental (bottled) oxygen.
Inexperienced climbers should not even think about attempting it, and deaths and serious injuries to experienced climbers, including guides and Sherpas, are common.
Just saying, nothing to worry about
ABC News Flash: Mt Everest Climbers Head for Brooklyn Everest Challenge this Saturday 21st March.
"Brooklyn Climb remains open despite Nepal shutting Mount Everest which could see an influx of gortex clad confused climbers arriving in Sydney." said Everest Challenge organiser, Ross Bowles.
"We are now preparing for a queue to form early in the day as mountaineers search for an alternate peak to summit."

Everest Rider Profiles - #2
Some might say "what a bunch of champions" and they would be correct. Check out these legends:
Katie has a list of cycling achievements that are absolutely amazing, current World, Australian and State champion - not just in her age group mind you, she has just won the State Hill Climb in the ELITE category, WOW!
Jon is my coach and a fantastic guy to be around, he sets the standard for motivation and support and makes sure I am at my best when I need to be. He is currently Bicycle NSW President and was awarded an Order of Australia (OAM) for contributions to Cycling, Has organised many charity event and supported cycling trips to USA and Europe, and he recently won two National teams road championships.
Martin is another endurance cyclist and has not only completed charity rides from Melbourne to Sydney, but he accompanied Michael in the madness of riding every stage of the Tour de France last year.
James is a gun Master 1 rider who is a mate of Willems, say no more, but like Willem, he will need to ride under harness to control his youth! Welcome James, we are very excited to have you in the Everest team.
PREPD Climbing to New Heights
Our friends at PREPD have been super generous and have provided PREPD for our team of Sherpas. With PREPD the Team will last the whole 16 + hours of the Everest - massive thanks Tony and all at PREPD -https://prepdhydration.com.au/
Latest Everest Signings: Wyk, Middlebrook and Coyne Gear Up ...
It's been a busy week or two on Brooklyn Hill - Massive thumbs up for Willem van Wyk, Micheal Coyne and Daryn Middlebrook who have signed up for the challenge and these riders come with history of being strong and tireless.
But are they up to the challenge of Everesting?, you might ask, you be the judge:
Willem is a young gun who last year, in his first season, shocked many in the elite mens field with his endurance and climbing speed - 7th in Elite B2B, finished Grafton to Inverell and 2019 Sutherland Club Champion!
The Alps of Europe 2019 were no match for youth, every day the smiling assassin crested each tor with his trademark grin. As an accomplished tour rider (2018 Melboune to Sydney) 300km in a day is not so uncommon for Willem, throw in a few thousand metres and crap weather and our Africaan friend is at home.
Michael has been riding for years and is unstoppable! Previously Michael has completed epic events such as Melbourne to Sydney, Qualified for and completed the 2018 UCI World Gran Fondo in Varese Italy, while last year he rode every stage of the Tour de France .... WOW!
Daryn is a veteran of 5 Police Legacy rides and is training for his 6th in a few months. As a senior police officer you might be suprised to learn that he too is a serial offender, completing many one day Gran Fondo events such as the B2B, Bowral Classic and L'Etape - bloody impressive I say.
More profile updates shortly ...
My Everest Schedule - 16 hours
Welcome to New Everest Challenge Team Members
Really exciting to get Jon, Katie and Martin on board for this ride. Very grateful for the support and also bloody thankful I wont be on my own and really pleased to have such a wealth of endurance cycling to push me to complete this challenge.
Climb the height of Everest, on just one hill, anywhere in the world, in one activity, without sleep, no time limit
The height of Everest - 8848 metres
Number of laps - 49 ascents of Brooklyn Climb
Distance to ride - 367 kilometres
Estimated time to complete - 16 hours
Solo, Team, Relay, Family, a bunch of mates - anyone can join me and the team, just sign up and let us know your personal challenge, what ever you want to set as your personal goal - 1 climb, 10 climbs, 2000m, 1 hour, 2 hours ... complete the 8848m for a full Everest!
Use these ideas to encourage your family, friends and followers to dig deep and support you in this great cause.
I plan to ride from 3am till 7pm but you can start and finish when ever you like and set your own pace. We will have a support tent at the bottom at the aptly named Rest Park (toilets, drinks and food) and another at the entrance to Pie in the Sky where the lap counter will be.
Turning at the bottom is very safe and at the top there is a fairly good view of traffic both ways to make a safe turn for the cruise back down.
